The Around the Island Race is a challenging 45km coastal rowing race around Hong Kong Island, held over two days and organized by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club. Attracting international teams, this premier rowing event tests endurance, strategy, and seamanship.

  • Day 1 – Iron Race: Solo, double, and quad crews race a full loop starting and finishing at Kellett Island in Victoria Harbour.

  • Day 2 – Relay Race & 10km Harbour Race: Teams compete in a relay with a changeover at Middle Island, plus a 10km harbour race (introduced in 2023).

Rowers face diverse conditions—from busy harbour traffic and currents to open ocean swells exceeding three metres on the island’s eastern side. The course also offers stunning contrasts, from Victoria Harbour’s skyline to the scenic coastlines and country parks of southern Hong Kong.

Whether competing to win or to finish, the BMW Around the Island Race delivers an unforgettable Hong Kong rowing experience.
